Child modeling equals child sexualisation?

Child modeling equals child sexualisation?

Child modeling is not something unusual. Children are often modeling for toy advertisements, clothes and different other products. However, in the recent weeks there has been a child model who has stolen all the spotlights and, surprisingly, a couple of bad comments, too. Kristina Pimenova is a 9 year old model who has had many appearances in the world of fashion and style magazines. She is young, talented and, of course, a real beauty.

Nevertheless, the pictures in which she appears have attracted the attention of the critics, as they consider she is modeling in inappropriate settings for her age. In fact, the press has already started to alert about the way children are now used as objects by companies that only care about their products and the success of their lines. What is more, they suggested that the beautiful 9 year old is made to look sexual in the photos she models.

Her mother, Glikeriya, on the other hand, fights the accusations and says that people who think of her child in a sexual way when looking at the photos have huge personal problems and “think like pedophiles”. She adds that her daughter only poses in decent positions and that the only “make-up” she wears is lip balm when her lips are dry. Glikeriya says that people should make a difference between children who pose in beds or wear heavy make-up and her daughter’s perfectly normal photo shoots.

Children should be protected and child modeling should never be equivalent to child sexualisation.
